We are currently seeking a talented System Application Architect on behalf of a major international organization.

 

Mode of working: fully remote within European Union

Seniority: 7+ years of relevant experience

 

JOB PROFILE

This role is responsible for developing and maintaining the enterprise architecture framework and roadmap in alignment with the business strategy; leading the evaluation, design, and integration of new technologies and systems; designing and overseeing the architecture of complex systems that support initiative goals; defining and enforcing architectural standards, best practices, and governance models, and conducting gap analysis and developing strategies to modernize existing systems / components and reduce technical debt.

 

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Knowledge

  • Strong technical knowledge of Cloud Computing Platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS, GCP)
  • Strong technical knowledge of Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) Strong technical knowledge of API Design and Integration
  • Knowledge of GraphQL, WebSockets, or real-time web app development
  • Strong technical knowledge of Microservices Architecture and Design Patterns
  • Strong technical knowledge of Containerization and Orchestration (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Strong technical knowledge of Database Design
  • Strong technical knowledge of DevOps Practices and CI/CD Pipelines
  • Deep understanding of software integration and interoperability principles, patterns and practices
  • Understanding of privacy, confidentiality and security practices related to software development. (e.g., OWASP)
  • Current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices

Skills

  • The role and scope of the application architecture domain and the dependencies with the components of other end-to-end system architecture domains
  • Design of scalable, modular architectures using best-practice application architecture patterns and model-based systems engineering approach
  • Hands-on approach to integration and verification as well as deployment of application packages, including integration with relevant 3rd party dependencies
  • Designing complex application architectures for Cloud deployment using Azure and AWS building blocks and services
  • Ability to accurately translate business requirements into solutions with and capability to challenge business requirements and suggest alternatives

Specific technical skills:

  • Enterprise architecture industry standards: TOGAF, NIST EA
  • Product/service development methodologies: Agile/SAFe, DevOps
  • Modelling: OOAD / UML, BPMN; Toolset: ArchiMate, IBM Rational
  • Design and development of service-oriented architectures
  • Pattern-oriented software architectures and software design patterns
  • Cloud development experience (Azure/AWS), including compute, storage, serverless and container (microservice) architectures, security, and federated identity and access management
  • C#, ASP.NET MVC & Web API, including REST endpoint specification and GraphQL
  • Client-side frameworks (NodeJS, AngularJS, React, etc.) and client-side storage with synchronization capabilities
  • ORM technologies such as Entity Framework or NHibernate
  • Relational (Microsoft SQL Server) and non-relational database models
  • BI/DW – dimensional modelling and multidimensional database models
  • Open-source software landscape

 


EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS

Essential
First-level university degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering or related field, or equivalent professional qualification.

Desirable
Advanced degree or specialisation in health informatics, data science, bioinformatics, applied mathematics, computer science, computational linguistics, computational epidemiology, or other related technical discipline(s).

 

 

EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • At least 7 years of relevant experience in software architecture, open-source and proprietary software development and the design and support of the continuous delivery pipeline
  • Experience acting in the role of a system architect, leading technical software development teams
  • Experience in coordinating activities with lead and solution architects to ensure that solutions developed in the scope of individual projects are aligned with the larger vision

Desirable

  • Demonstrated experience in the software acquisition, development and maintenance for the public health domain
  • Previous experience with development projects with WHO/UN/other international organizations

 

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Expert knowledge in spoken and written English.
  • Intermediate knowledge of another UN language would be an asset.
