Are you a senior-level Business Analyst with deep experience in software and data architecture, data governance, and software development lifecycles? Are you passionate about using your expertise to support global health initiatives, epidemic intelligence, and responsible AI use in data-driven systems?

We’re looking for a seasoned freelancer to join an international, interdisciplinary team on a high-impact public health project. This is a remote-first engagement in a complex, global setting focused on developing and integrating software systems that support epidemic and pandemic intelligence across borders.

Responsibilities

As a Senior Business Analyst, you will act as a vital bridge between scientific stakeholders, technical teams, and public health decision-makers. You will be responsible for:

  • Leading and facilitating the elicitation, analysis, and documentation of business and functional requirements through workshops, interviews, and stakeholder engagement.

  • Translating complex public health and scientific objectives into actionable system and data architecture designs that align with strategic goals.

  • Producing and maintaining high-quality business process models, system workflows, and architecture documentation using tools such as draw.io, Lucidchart, or equivalent platforms for process diagramming and database design.

  • Supporting and informing technical design decisions and strategic planning through the use of collaborative online tools such as Miro, Figma, and similar platforms to create mockups, wireframes, and visual artifacts.

  • Providing ongoing mentoring and onboarding support to new team members, as well as offering guidance and coordination to internal stakeholders and external vendors, ensuring alignment and knowledge continuity.

  • Contributing to project delivery in both independent and collaborative team environments, demonstrating initiative, accountability, and adaptability within diverse and distributed teams.

  • Provide guidance on governance processes, data policy, and responsible use of AI.

Requirements

Functional Knowledge:

  • Deep expertise in software and system architecture, data architecture, and interoperability principles.

  • Strong understanding of AI governance, data governance, and software development methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, hybrid).

  • Familiarity with epidemiology, mathematical modelling, and health data management.

  • Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure (Azure or AWS).

  • Background working with the scientific community and international or UN agencies (e.g., WHO, UN).

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in BPMN, wireframing tools (Miro, Figma), and diagramming platforms (draw.io, Lucidchart).

  • Advanced skills in SQL, HTML, XML, JSON, CSS.

  • Skilled in Azure DevOps (Boards, Queries, Wiki, Test Suites) and Microsoft 365 suite.

  • Strong documentation, communication, and mentoring capabilities.

Qualifications (Essential):

  • Master’s or higher in IT, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related.

  • 10+ years of experience in business analysis, software design, data architecture, and public health-related systems.

  • Proven success leading software integration projects and collaborating with scientific and policy teams.

Qualifications (Desirable):

  • Knowledge of infectious disease modelling.

  • Certifications such as CBAP/CCBA, PMI-PBA, PMI-ACP, PRINCE2, or PMP.

  • Contributions to the professional business analysis or project management communities.
