We are currently looking for an experienced Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) to support a major public-sector organization in Nicosia, Cyprus, taking responsibility for the strategic planning, implementation, oversight, and continuous improvement of information security and cybersecurity.

This is a part time project-based opportunity, ideal for an experienced freelancer or independent cybersecurity professional looking to contribute to a high-impact project within the public sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advise employees with access to the Organization’s network and information systems regarding their information security responsibilities, in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, and security standards.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, cybersecurity requirements, and information security standards related to the protection of the Organization’s information and systems.
  • Monitor compliance with the required information security measures and controls, in line with the relevant legislation, regulations, and requirements of the Digital Security Authority (DSA).
  • Provide expert advice on information security management and monitor the effectiveness and performance of implemented security measures.
  • Identify, assess, and report on information security threats, vulnerabilities, and risks to Management.
  • Prepare reports regarding the notification and management of security incidents and cybersecurity incidents, particularly those that may have a significant impact on the continuity of services.
  • Monitor the implementation and progress of cybersecurity measures and provide regular updates to Management.
  • Attend Management meetings and sessions, when required, to present requested reports, provide updates on the current cybersecurity posture, and report on the progress of relevant security initiatives.
  • Provide strategic guidance and recommendations regarding the continuous improvement of the Organization’s cybersecurity and information security framework.
  • Support the Organization in maintaining an effective and risk-based approach to information security and cybersecurity.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s and Master’s degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant field related to:

Network & Information Security, Cybersecurity, Digital Forensics, or another closely related

discipline.

  • At least 8 years of professional experience in Network & Information Security and/or Cybersecurity.
  • Demonstrable experience in at least 2 projects involving the identification, assessment, prioritization, and development of strategies for addressing security risks.
  • At least 3 years of professional experience as a Project Manager and/or Project Team Lead, with responsibilities including planning, organization, leadership, coordination, and supervision of activities related to the required services.
  • Professional certification in at least 2 of the following, or equivalent professional qualifications:
  • ISO/IEC 27001 Lead Auditor (LA)
  • ISO/IEC 27001 Lead Implementer (LI)
  • ISO/IEC 27005 Information Security Risk Management
  • ISO/IEC 27035 Information Security Incident Management
  • Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA)
  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
  • Certified Information Security Manager (CISM)
  • Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC)
  • A recognized Project Management certification, such as PRINCE2, PMP, or another relevant professional certification.
