We are looking for an experienced Principal ICT Systems Technician to join a high-profile, mission-critical technology project based in The Hague.
The successful candidate will work as an integrated member of a dedicated service operations team, providing advanced technical support across ICT systems, network infrastructure, software configuration, system deployment, and operational environments.
The role combines hands-on technical responsibilities with Level 2 operational support, requiring strong troubleshooting, analytical and problem-solving skills. The position also includes participation in a 24/7 immediate on-call rotation, supporting operational services and ensuring timely ticket response and resolution in line with defined Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
Key Responsibilities
Software Configuration
-
Assist in designing, verifying, documenting, amending and refactoring moderately complex software configurations for deployment.

Apply agreed technical standards, methodologies and tools to deliver reliable and well-engineered solutions.

Participate in technical reviews and collaborate with other members of the service and engineering teams.
-
Maintain accurate technical documentation relating to software configurations and deployed solutions.
System Software & Platform Support
-
Monitor operational systems for resource utilisation, performance and failure rates to support system tuning and optimisation.

Configure system software parameters to maximise system performance, throughput and efficiency.
-
Install, configure and test new versions of system software.
-
Support software upgrades, patches and technical changes in accordance with established procedures.
-
Contribute to the preparation of software implementation procedures, including rollback and contingency plans.

Analyse system logs and performance data to identify potential issues and support root-cause analysis.
Network Support
-
Perform agreed network maintenance and operational configuration tasks.

Configure and troubleshoot network components and services.
-
Diagnose network problems using established troubleshooting methodologies and appropriate technical tools.
-
Support troubleshooting across technologies such as TCP/IP, VPN, VLAN, DNS and firewalls.

Use network management and monitoring tools to collect and analyse performance and traffic statistics.
-
Assist in identifying recurring network issues and contribute to their resolution.
Systems Installation & Removal
-
Install and remove hardware and software using approved procedures, installation instructions and diagnostic tools.
-
Configure and validate newly installed systems and infrastructure components.
-
Perform functional and technical testing following installation.
-
Identify, troubleshoot and resolve installation-related issues.
-
Document installation, configuration and removal activities accurately.
-
Maintain records of installed, removed and configured components.
-
Provide technical assistance to users and escalate issues in accordance with established support procedures.
-
Contribute to the continuous improvement of installation procedures, technical standards and documentation.
Release & Deployment
-
Execute approved software and system deployment activities using established tools and methodologies.
-
Support controlled releases, upgrades and technical changes within operational environments.
-
Record deployment activities, test results, technical actions and outcomes.
-
Ensure all deployment and implementation activities are appropriately documented and traceable.
Operational & On-Call Responsibilities
-
Provide 24/7 immediate on-call Level 2 technical support as part of a defined service operations rotation.
-
Respond promptly to operational incidents, service requests and technical tickets.
-
Provide practical technical solutions for complex ICT and operational issues.
-
Troubleshoot incidents through structured investigation, diagnosis and resolution.
-
Ensure ticket responses and resolutions meet defined SLAs and KPIs.
-
Escalate unresolved or high-impact issues to the appropriate specialist or engineering teams.
-
Work closely with service operations and technical teams to minimise service disruption.
-
When not assigned to on-call duties, work as an on-site integrated member of the assigned service team.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
-
Higher vocational qualification in a relevant technical discipline with at least 3 years of relevant professional experience, or a secondary education qualification with at least 5 years of relevant professional experience.

Minimum 3 years of practical experience implementing and maintaining ICT end-user systems within a large-scale organisation.

Solid experience configuring and maintaining hardware and software.
-
Strong understanding of ICT systems and infrastructure.
-
Demonstrated ability to work independently and troubleshoot technical problems effectively.
-
Hands-on experience diagnosing technical issues and providing technical support to end-users.
-
Experience working in structured service operations or enterprise IT environments.
-
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
-
Ability to work effectively under pressure and respond to operational incidents within defined timeframes.
-
Willingness and ability to participate in a 24/7 on-call support rotation.

Experience with remote server administration.

Strong log analysis capabilities.

Hands-on experience using network analysis and diagnostic tools such as Wireshark.

Experience supporting complex, distributed or mission-critical ICT environments.

ITIL Foundation or advanced-level training and certification.

Security Requirements
